Fix Cavities in Oakville & More with Inlays & Onlays
At Oak Park Dental, we offer our patients with tooth decay conditions, such as cavities, in Oakville solutions like inlays and onlays made of porcelain, the most biocompatible material for the body. As it can be challenging to determine whether inlays, onlays, fillings, crowns, or caps should best be used in your unique dental situation, please consult with us and let us thoroughly examine your teeth.
Inlays vs. Onlays
Inlays and onlays are similar (but different!) solutions to lost dental structure. Like fillings, inlays are used to replace a small amount of tooth structure that has been lost to decay. Inlays are bonded to the tooth, a process that can even improve the tooth’s overall strength. Onlays are used for our Oakville patients that need more extensive dental restoration. Like inlays, onlays fit inside the tooth but they also extend to the chewing surface of back teeth. In earlier times, they were made of gold, but today, many inlays come in colours virtually indistinguishable from the natural colour of teeth, made up of materials like ceramic and dental composite.
