Missing Teeth & Healthy Gums? Get Dental Implants in Oakville

At Oak Park Dental, our team thrives on supporting patients with restoring their smiles. We can provide dental implants to our Oakville area patients who need to replace one or more missing teeth. You are not restricted to dentures and bridges; if you have otherwise healthy gums and enough jaw bone structure, you may be a great candidate for dental implants.

These devices are, in a nutshell, artificial roots made of titanium metal used to hold replacement teeth and are inserted directly into the jawbone. Implants replace an extracted tooth, both root and crown, and are usually single units that don’t involve the neighbouring teeth. Multiple implants can also be used to correct loose or ill-fitting dentures.

To examine and fit you for dental implants, we will:

  • First take x-rays and thoroughly examine your dental and oral health to see if dental implants are the right solution for you
  • Insert the dental implant into your jawbone underneath the gums; then, stitch the wound back in place
  • Wait for the implant to bond and the tissue to heal, which may take a few months
  • Attach the abutment to the bond once it heals – an abutment is a post that connects the replacement tooth to the bond
  • Form a replacement tooth and attach it to the abutment, a process that can take several appointments

Complications are uncommon, but as with all medical procedures, you may be at risk to things such as bleeding, infection, and numbness. The implant may also fail to bond to the jawbone. If you are concerned, please discuss with your dentist. Our team in Oakville would be happy to provide you answers to help you decide on treatment.

As implants look and act like natural teeth, brush and floss them as you would normal teeth. You may also need to visit us once in a while so we can make sure the implants are working properly.
